Enyimba Players Robbed In Kogi

Enyimba Football Club of Aba on Monday were attacked and robbed at gunpoint on their way to a pre-season tournament in the northern town of Kaduna.

The People’s Elephant were on their way to the Super Four tournament as they met the armed men at Okene, Kogi State, north-central Nigeria.

Players and officials were robbed of valuables such as phones and cash but no-one was hurt during the incident, Enyimba announced on their official Twitter account.

The Club’s statement read: “We can confirm that our team’s bus was attacked by armed robbers this afternoon in Okene, Kogi State on our way to Kaduna for the SuperFour.

“Thankfully, there were no injuries during this unfortunate incident. Players and officials were however stripped of all valuables.”

A top official of the club, Chukwudi Okanume told Goal that dare devil armed robbers waylaid their bus, and after shooting sporadically into the air, robbed the players and officials of personal electronics and money.

“We were attacked around Okene by armed robbers who came with lots of guns. They were shooting into the air. The players lost all what they had on them including phones, money, laptops and other valuables,” Okanume said.

“We have not sat down to take stock of what was stolen. Everything happened in broad daylight but there was nobody to help us.”

The Seven-time Nigerian will feature in a pre-season tournament in Kaduna to prepare for a CAF Champions League preliminary round fixture next month.

The competition which starts on Wednesday features, Warri Wolves, Nasarawa United and cup winners Akwa United.
