EPL: Anthony Martial’s Brace Sends Man United Second

Manchester United continued their dream start to the Premier League as their £36m deadline day signing, Anthony Martial scored twice to lift United to second with a win at Southampton.

The Red devils started poorly and went behind when Southampton’s Graziano Pelle converted a loose ball after David De Gea’s fine save.

But Martial, 19, equalised with United’s first shot on target and then took advantage of defensive blunder by Southampton to slot in a second.

Juan Mata added a third with Pelle heading home a late second, and United holding on for a win, after late resurgence from Southampton.

Martial became the third player to score on both of his first two Premier League appearances for United, after Louis Saha in 2004 and Federico Macheda in 2009.

Louis van Gaal, the Manchester United manager, who showered praises on the 19 year old striker in a post-match interview said; “Anthony Martial is already special because we paid a lot of money for him. A lot of people are thinking he is a great star but he is a boy of 19. In three matches he has shown a lot.

“I am very happy with him but we and he have to keep our feet on the ground.
