Eto’o Gets First Managerial Role

Former Chelsea and Barcelona striker, Samuel Eto’o has been appointed interim player-manager at Turkish top-flight side Antalyaspor.

The 34-year old, who joined the Antalyaspor this season, will remain as player and captain while co-managing alongside technical director Mehmet Ugurlu, following the departure of manager, Yusuf Simsek.

Speaking to Turkish press, the club president Gultekin Gencer, said: “We sat down with [technical director] Mehmet Ugurlu and Eto’o. Both will jointly coordinate training. The board commissioned Ugurlu and Eto’o to assume coaching duties until a new coach is found.”

Antalyaspor will make a decision about whether to give Eto’o the role permanently after the winter break.

Turkey is the latest stop in Eto’o’s eclectic career which has seen him perform for the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Sampdoria.
