A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on Friday, sentenced a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mr. Raymond Omatseye, to five years in prison.

Omatseye, who was standing trial for a N1.5 billion contract scam bordering on a 27-count charge, was also accused of awarding contracts exceeding the threshold allowed a Director General by the Public Procurement Act while he was in office, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He was further charged with money laundering contrary to Sections 14(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004.
