A Federal High Court in Kano has ordered former NNPC GMD, Andrew Yakubu, to forfeit the $9.2 million and £72,000 recovered from his Kaduna apartment by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Tuesday ruling by Justice Zainab Abubakar followed an ex parte application filed by the EFCC, seeking an interim forfeiture of the sums to the government.

Justice Abubakar held that “The sum of $9,772,000 (Nine Million, Seven Hundred and Seventy Two Thousand United States Dollars) and £74,000 (Seventy Four Thousand Pound Sterling) which are now in the custody of the applicant (EFCC) are in the interim forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria”

THE WHISTLER recalls that Mr. Yakubu had admitted ownership of the huge sums when he surrendered himself at the zonal office of the anti-graft agency in Kano.
