Ex-NNPC GMD, Andrew Yakubu Had 4 Safes, Not 1 – Whistle Blower

The whistle-blower who informed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC about the foreign currencies stashed in a safe by former Group Managing Director, GMD, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu, has revealed that there are three more safes stashed with cash.

The anti-graft agency raided the residential apartment of Yakubu, in Kaduna State, recovering $9.7 million and £74,000 in a safe which belonged to him.

According to Daily Nigerian, the whistle-blower (name withheld) told EFCC investigators the safes in the house were four in number, and that the remaining three cash boxes were taken to unknown destination few days before the EFCC raid.

The whistleblower said that had EFCC not swung into action on February 3, chances were that the remaining one would also be evacuated.

Asked if he had any hint as to where the rest of the safes were hidden, the whistle-blower said he did not know.
