Facebook Hands Blackberry A Lifeline, Roll-Out HTML BB10 App

Facebook has given Blackberry a lifeline by rolling out a new HTML BB10 app to keep the web-based version of its app available for the platform.

Although not the same as native app, the phone company promised that core features will be available, including the ability to reply to comments and see others’ replies to comments.

Facebook followed in the footsteps of WhatsApp last week with the announcement that it will stop supporting BlackBerry 10 (BB10) bb1 and BB OS, given their small combined market share.

Fortunately, a modest solution has been found. BlackBerry has revealed that Facebook will keep the web-based version of its app available for the platform, as the native Facebook app is said to have stopped working since March 31st.

“I want to clarify that Facebook will continue to support BlackBerry 10 and BB OS. The experience will be slightly different, but you’ll still get the same Facebook features you love,” Blackberry said in a blog post.

“We have worked hard with Facebook to address some technical challenges and the best solution was to move forward with a web-based app.

“the full Android Facebook app is available on the Priv by BlackBerry.”

In addition, BlackBerry noted that the new app is a web version of Facebook, adding that any feature available to Facebook’s website users will be available in the updated application.

Henceforth, Blackberry users wishing to Facebook on their devices will need to switch to the web-based app, unless it’s the Android-powered Priv.
