Facebook Rolls Out New Tool For Publishers

Facebook, world’s most popular social media service, has launched a new feature for news publishers.

The new tool seeks to display publishers’ logo next to stories written and posted by them on Facebook.

It was built in close collaboration with a number of Facebook partners, as part of the Facebook Journalism Project, which includes efforts announced last month to help publishers sell subscriptions by creating a paywall..

“We’re going to keep experimenting with different ways to support the news industry and make sure reporters and publishers everywhere can keep doing their important work,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a Wednesday post.

“If people subscribe after seeing news stories on Facebook, the money will go directly publishers who work hard to uncover the truth, and Facebook won’t take a cut.

“We plan to start with a small group of US. and European publishers later this year and we’ll listen to their feedback.”

To ensure authenticity, the feature helps in identifying the various sources of news content posted on Facebook. This also allows readers better decide what to read and share.

Publishers via a “Brand Asset Library”, would also be able to upload multiple versions of their logos. For starters, the feature would be exclusively for articles in “Trending and Search”, but will be available eventually to other outlets where news is being consumed by readers.
