Facebook User Laments How Child On Oxygen Died Due To Power Outage

A Facebook user, Fred Edoreh, has lamented how a one month old baby on oxygen died in Lagos due to power outage at an undisclosed hospital.

In the post which he titled, And the baby died! Edoreh said: “For over ten days, the one month old boy and his mum have been on admission at the hospital in same ward with my son.

“He was said to have intestinal knot. They couldn’t do the operation because his blood count was low. He needed transfusion. A brother-in-law came to donate blood. The baby was transfused. The operation was done successfully afterwards.

“Because the baby hadn’t been sucking, he lacked strength. Yesterday, they found he wasn’t breathing well. They placed him on oxygen.

“Later in the night, there was power failure and the oxygen machine stopped working.

“The inmates and the nurses all raced up to the hospital management to put on the electricity generating plant. They said they was no diesel to power the generator. So the baby was left without the oxygen aid. Then, he died.

“The mother is weeping. The co-patients are weeping. The nurses are weeping. The doctor who did the operation is weeping because he, indeed, had developed a passion and made a commitment to see that the baby stayed alive but the responsibility to ensure steady electricity was not in his control…

“This country, my brother…”
