The Federal Government on Friday cancelled the 2017 retreat for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF and Secretaries to State Governments, SSG indefinitely.

The move comes barely 48 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari suspended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

In a statement by Bolaji Adebiyi, Director of Press in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Federal Government said the retreat scheduled for April 23-25 in Yola, Adamawa has been shifted and a new date to be announced soon.

The statement reads: “The annual retreat of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation with Secretaries to the State Governments scheduled to hold in Yola, Adamawa State, has been postponed.

“A new date will be communicated to all participants and invited guests in due course.

“The office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) regrets any inconvenience,” he said.

Recall that President Buhari on Wednesday ordered the suspension of Babachir Lawal, over allegation of corruption in contract awards at the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

Mr. Lawal was said to have chaired a company which got a grass-cutting contract worth over N200 million while he was in office.

The suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF is also to be investigated by a presidential committee headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Buhari has given the Osinbajo-led committee 14 days to investigate the matter.

The most senior Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Dr. Habibat Lawan, has taken over in Acting capacity pending the outcome of the investigation.
