FG To Begin Massive Importation Of Kerosene

Following the recent scarcity of kerosene, the Federal Government has ordered for importation of the product.

Alhaji Sharif Usman, Chairman of Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), on Wednesday in Abuja, disclosed that the decision to import kerosene was to tackle the scarcity of the product currently witnessed across the country.

He stated that upon arrival of the commodity, no member would be required to lobby or bribe to secure allocation, adding that the price will be less than what the NNPC retail outlets are selling.

He said: “Very soon, the products, Dual Purpose Kerosene, DPK, and Automotive Gasoline Oil, AGO, will be in circulation under the leadership of Elder Chinedu Okoronkwo. “And when they arrive, each and every one of us will get allocation. You don’t have to bother yourself because it is time to fight corruption,” he said.

According to a survey by the OTL, organisers of Nigeria’s biggest downstream seminar and exhibition, over 30 million Nigerian households use kerosene for cooking and for light, as well as fuel for local lanterns.

The scarcity of the product has however impaired its use by Nigerians, as some have resorted to the use of charcoal and firewood.
