FIFA U-17 World Cup: Ghana, Mali Battle For Semi-Final Slot

FIFA under-17 World Cup is gradually dwindling down and African youngster haven’t failed to live up to expectations.

Two African teams Ghana and Mali have now qualified for the round eight of the competition being hosted by India.

The Ghanaian young athletes who have shown a lot of promise since the start of the tournament defeated Niger 2-0 in an all-African Round of 16 in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday,

While Mali crushed Iraq 5-1, the Les Aiglonnets dominated the game and deservedly took the lead through Hadji Drame who scored the 2,000th goal in tournament history.

Ali Kareem consolation goal couldn’t do much for the Iraqis as Lassana N’Diaye, Seme Camara and Fode Konate were all at goal for the Black starlets.

Mali who were the Chile 2015 runner-up and also African Under-17 champions, will face West African rivals Ghana in the Quarter-Finals in Guwahati on Saturday.

Other quarter-final matches to be played on Saturday will feature USA up against England and on Sunday, Spain will battle Iran, while Germany face Brazil.
