FIFA, CAF, Arsenal Celebrate Kanu Nwankwo At 41

Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) and Premier League club side Arsenal, have sent birthday wishes to retired Nigeria football legend Nwanakwo Kanu who clocked 41 years on Tuesday.

The birthday wishes were made on their respective Twitter handles on Tuesday.

CAF wrote: “Happiest birthday wishes to African player of the years 96′ 99′ and 96′ Olympic gold medalist Nwankwo Kanu.”
Arsenal wrote: “Happy 41st birthday, @papilokanu!”
While FIFA, who sent birthday, wishes to other football past and present, wrote: “#HBD to @karenjcarney (30), @BSchweinsteiger (33), @papilokanu (41) & Dennis Lawrence (43).”

The legendary Nigerian soccer star, Kanu Nwankwo popularly called ‘Papilo’ was Born August 1st, 1976 and hails from Abia State. He captained the Super Eagles team for 16years, from 1994-2010.

He began his football career at the Nigerian League club Federation Works, before moving to Iwuanyanwu Nationale.
In 1993, after a notable performance at the U-17 World Championships, he was signed by Dutch Eredivisie AFC Ajax. In 1996, he joined Serie A giants Internazionale and that same year he captained the Nigerian team that won gold medal at the Olympics.
He joined Premier League giants Arsenal for approximately £4.15 million in February 1999.

Kanu has won a UEFA Champions League medal, a UEFA Cup medal, three FA Cup Winners Medals and two African Player of the Year awards amongst others.

He is also one of few players to have won the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Cup and an Olympic Gold Medal.
