FIFA Ranking: Eagles Drop, Germany Reclaim Top Spot

The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped one spot to 38th in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released by the world football governing body on Thursday.

Gernot Rohr’s men, previously occupying the 38th position in the world, moved down one place following their disappointing AFCON qualifier loss to South Africa.

The Bafana Bafana defeated the Nigeria 2-0 in the first group game of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Calabar, handing the Eagles their first home defeat against the Southern Africans.

Despite the drop, the three-time African champions remain sixth in the continent, behind Egypt, Senegal, Congo DR, Tunisia and Cameroon respectively.

On the global scene, Germany leapfrogged Brazil and Argentina to reclaim the number spot in the world, for the first time in two years.

Joachim Loew’s side won the FIFA Confederations Cup last Sunday in Russia, despite coming into the competition with their second team.

Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and Switzerland make up the top 5.
