FIFA U-17 W’CUP: Eaglets Thrash Brazil 3-0, Book Semi-Final Spot

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, continued their fine form at the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, as they defeated South American rivals, Brazil, 3-0 at Vina del Mar on Sunday night.

Three goals in five minutes in the first half from Victor Osimhen, Michael Dogo Kingsley and Udochukwu Anumudu was all the Nigerians needed to book their spot in the Semi-finals of the competition.

The Golden Eaglets withstood early pressure from their South American counterparts, with goalkeeper Akpan Udoh in fine form to deny the Brazilians goal scoring opportunities on two occasions.

The Samba Boys were made to pay for their missed chances in the 29th minute, when top scorer Victor Osimhen gave Nigeria the lead with a powerful header from close range following a John Lazarus cross.

Moments later, Emmanuel Amuneke’s boys made it 2-0, courtesy a volley by Michael Kingsley past Brazilian goalkeeper Juliano Marlon.

Anumudu rounded off the scoring with a left-footed drive from distance, which bounced off the turf and past the Brazilian goalkeeper.

The defending champions will now wait on the winners of Monday’s quarter-final clash between Mexico and Ecuador, who they will play on Thursday for a place in the final and continue their quest for a fifth world title.
