Fire Outbreak In NASS Forces Lawmakers Out

Plenary Adjourned Till Next Week

A fire incident in a technical room at the Senate wing of the National Assembly on Thursday forced lawmakers out of the chamber.

Senators were said to have gathered in the chamber for today’s plenary session when the incident occurred, prompting them to cut short the session and move out to a secured location.

The room, located in the basement of the national assembly, emitted smoke that penetrated through the air conditioning system to the chamber.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but fire experts have regained control of the room by putting out the fire.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, adjourned the session till Tuesday, February 20, after a point of order was raised by Senator Abdullahi Gohir.
