Former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, has been named the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Spokesman for the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, disclosed this to newsmen at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

The former Governor will be replacing Ahmadu Mu’azu, who resigned as PDP chairman shortly after the 2015 general elections. Prince Uche Secondus has been acting as Chairman since then but had been asked to revert to his earlier post of Deputy National Chairman.

The party’s chairmanship has been the subject of controversy in recent times due to an action by former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, who pronounced himself as the national chairman of the party, a move the PDP leadership frowned at.
