Golden Globes: La La Land Breaks Record As Meryl Streep Knocks Trump Hard

La La Land, a musical movie, was the outstanding film of the night, winning all of the seven categories it was nominated for, as it positioned itself as an Oscar frontrunner.

The musical comedy-drama film broke the record for the most number of trophies ever won by a film at the Golden Globes.

But the standout moment of the evening came away from the awards action. Meryl Streep, who was awarded with the prestigious Cecil B. Demille Award, in her acceptance speech took a swipe at the US president-elect, Donald Trump for mocking a disabled New York Times reporter during the election campaign in 2015.

“This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modelled by someone in the public platform,” she said. “By someone powerful, it filters down into everyone’s life because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect, violence invites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”

Trump who hit back at the actress in a series of tweets on Monday, described the actress as “one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood” and a “Hillary flunky who lost big”.

He also denied ever mocking the journalist, Serge Kovaleski, who suffers from arthrogryposis, a congenital condition that affects joints.
