Gombe State Sponsors 250 Trainees On NAPSAS Power Programme

In a bid to cover lost grounds as a result of insurgency in the restive North – Eastern region, the Federal Ministry of Power, on Monday, said that the Governor of Gombe state, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwanbo has sponsored two hundred and fifty trainees to a two-week training under the National Power Sector Apprenticeship Programme (NAPSAS).

A statement signed by the deputy director of press, Timothy Oyedeji revealed that the NAPSAS powerprogramme has been designed to fill middle level manpower training gaps in the Power Sector.

According to the statement, the Permanent Secretary, Amb. Godknows Igali, ably represented by Mr. Ebenezer Olowosejeje, Deputy Director in the Ministry, said that the NAPSAS programme was being conceived as a developmental and people oriented programme aimed at miligating the problem of youth unemployment in Nigeria.

“As an antidote to take our youths off the street, NAPSAS is focused on practical knowledge transfer that wills, at completion, produce a transformed group of improved, innovative and aspiration qualitatively skilled people.” Igali said.

The Permanent Secretary assured that the government will not deviate from its original plan to use NAPSS trainees as crop of middle/low level manpower required in the unbundled power sector.

“Through NAPSAS, it is hoped that the desired result in power stability will soon be experienced in the sector,” he said.

While thanking the Government of Gombe for sponsoring these trainees, Igali challenged the trainees to reap bountifully from the programme.

He added that its support and interest in NAPSAS informed the organization of this 2nd phase programme.

Earlier, the Co-coordinator of training module, Engr. Ifeanyi Eze informed the trainees that the peculiarity of their needs in the North – East, guided the Solar Technology centered training.

He tasked them to embrace solar technology as a means of providing electricity in abundance in the region, by this they can become change – agents for socio – economic revival of the beleaguered North – East region.
