Group Issues Adeosun 72hrs To Clarify NYSC Certificate Scandal

The Empowerment for Unemployed Youth Initiative, a civil society group, has given the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, a 72-hour ultimatum to clarify allegations of forgery of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate levelled against her.

The group, in a letter signed jointly by its National Coordinator, Amb. Solomon Adodo and Deputy National Secretary, Suleiman Musa, expressed worry that the allegations may pose a distraction to the anti-corruption stance of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

In the letter sent exclusively to THE WHISTLER, the group urged the minister to urgently clarify the allegations so as to enable them “take a proper stand in defense of the government”.

“May we place on record that we appreciate the sincere determined and patriotic efforts of Mr. President in steering the affairs of Nigeria and we shall not stand askance and watch the pristine image of this government being ridiculed,” the letter reads.

“It is on this premise that we humbly request urgent clarification from your person on the said matter to enable our team take a proper stand in defense of the government.

“We shall appreciate that this clarification reaches us within 72 hours of this notice in order to halt the negative image this is giving the government.”

Recall that Premium Times, in an exclusive report, accused the minister of having a forged NYSC in her possession. The certificate was allegedly issued in September 2009, granting her exemption from the mandatory national service on account of age.

The medium claims that the signature on the alleged certificate was forged as the director who purportedly signed it had retired from office 8 months before it was issued to the minister.
