Group ‘Petitions’ Osinbajo To Call NNPC’s Baru To Order

Available report indicates that a group of individuals and companies have written Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, to call the Group Managing Director (GMD), of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, to order.

A source in the NNPC Towers is alleging that the petition, written by some undisclosed individuals and companies, is a fallout of Baru’s ongoing reform in the NNPC.

The source claimed that Baru appeared to have “stepped on some powerful toes with the ongoing reform”, which has prompted efforts to halt transformation of the NNPC.

While noting that there is a “massive retail marketing” taking place through expansion of the NNPC’s Retail Company, the source said that a “conservative segment of the oil industry” are opposed to the whole process because they risk their benefits from the rot and decay in the system.

“NNPC boss was given express directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to cleanse NNPC and its subsidiaries of inefficiency and corrupt practices,” the source said.

The source went further to say that “so far, it is very clear that Baru is determined to carry out that mandate to the letter.

“Baru has undertaken far reaching measures designed to sanitize the Corporation by instilling discipline, ensuring probity and accountability and zero tolerance to corruption among others.

“His vision of empowering the NNPC organs, particularly the NNPC retail, PPMC and Trading was aimed at ensuring that the Corporation returns to the path of profitability and excellence in service delivery.”

Baru has since been urged by some major industry players to be undeterred and move on.
