The circumstance that led to the rejection of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may best be explained using an old bedtime story titled ‘once upon a time there lived a thief …’

Magu’s journey of becoming the substantive chairman of the EFCC was terminated, Thursday, after a report by the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, indicted him of being “corrupt, and a gross violator of human rights”

The report, which further revealed that Magu possesses undeclared assets, was addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and Senate President Bukola Saraki.

“The report is 16 pages and it is damning. It basically gives reasons why Magu is not fit to be EFCC chairman,” a senior national assembly official told The Cable.

“The acting EFCC chairman is alleged to possess undeclared pieces of property. He is alleged to be corrupt, and a gross violator of human rights. The senate cannot act outside the report,” he added.
