IAAF: Bowie Wins Women’s 100m, As Okagbare Crashes Out

America’s Frentorish “Tori” Bowie dove past Mari-Josée Ta Lou of Côte d’Ivoire to win the IAAF World Championships 100m women title final on Sunday night in London.

Defending world 200m champion Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands earned bronze in 10.96secs.
Olympic 200m champion Elaine Thompson who was the overwhelming favorite for gold in London, had the slowest reaction time of the entire field and could not recover.

Earlier, reigning Nigeria sprint queen, Blessing Okagbare, crashed out of the 100 metres in the semi-final stages, finishing 4th with a time of 11.09secs.

It is on record that no Nigerian woman has won a medal from the 100m event at the world championships. The 28-year-old failed again in her quest to make history.

She will now switch her attention to the Long Jump and Relay events as she battles to win a medal in London.
