INEC’S Electoral Institute DG, Abubakar Momoh Dies

Abubakar Momoh, the Director-General, Independent National Electoral Commission’s Electoral Institute, has died on Monday.

In a Facebook post by his associate and lawyer, Abdul Mahmoud, the professor allegedly died at the Lagos State University (LASU).

As at the time of filing this report, the cause of Abubakar’s death is unknown.

“It’s true, I have just spoken to his brother-in-law,” said Mahmoud.

Mr. Abubakar was said to have served on various boards and scientific committees including those of the Centre for Democracy and Development, and Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa.

According to his profile as published by the African Leadership Centre, Abubakar “Obtained PhD in political theory and began his lecturing career in 1988.”
