Innoson Boss Rejects EFCC Bail, Demands ‘Reason For Arrest’

Few hours after he was granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Innocent Chukwuma, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Innoson Group, has rejected his release.

The EFCC had on Tuesday arrested the Anambra State-born Industrialist, at his Enugu residence.

The anti-graft agency claimed Mr. Chukwuma was arrested for refusing to respond to an invitation by the Commission, after initially being granted administrative bail by the Commission, while his surety could also not be found.

But the EFCC on Wednesday night granted the businessman bail.

However later that evening, Chukwuma’s company said the entrepreneur has rejected the bail, asking the agency to explain the reason for his arrest.

“Innoson has refused his release because he is demanding to know the reason for his arrest,” it wrote.

The EFCC had earlier alleged that Chief Chukwuma and his brother, Charles Chukwuma are being investigated by the Insurance and Capital Market Fraud Section of the agency over matters bordering on forgery.

“Chief Chukwuma and his brother, Charles Chukwuma (who is still at large), are being investigated by the Insurance and Capital Market Fraud Section of the Commission’s office in Lagos over matters bordering on N1, 478, 366, 859.66 fraud and forgery,” the commission had said in a statement.

“The industrialist, among other infractions, allegedly used forged documents to secure tax waivers.”
