Instagram Boasts Over One Million Active Advertisers

Photo-sharing platform Instagram said Thursday that it has more than one million active advertisers, double the number in six months.

The Facebook-owned company in a statement said more than eight million businesses were now using a business profile on its platform, with large chunk of them from US, Brazil, Indonesia, Russia and the UK.

In September last year, the company had said that it had nearly 500K active advertisers on the platform.

“In the last month alone, more than 120 million Instagrammers reached out to learn more about a business. And, we know people come to Instagram to follow their passions, and that these passions extend to brands, with 80% of Instagrammers following a business today,” the statement reads.

“As we continue to build a thriving business that fosters these connections, we will evolve Instagram Business profiles with this in mind. For example, later this year we will roll out the ability to book a service with a business directly from their profile.”

Instagram also announced that it will offer more insights to businesses on stories, posts saved and multi-post images to gain perspective on its followers.

“We’re starting with more insights on stories, posts saved and multi-post images, so that businesses can continue to gain perspective on its followers.”

Speaking in a phone interview this week, Instagram’s vice president for business, James Quarles, described the 1 million number a “milestone.”

Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion in 2012, then the app had limited advertising with just a few well-known brands.
