Instagram Gets Translation Button

Photo and video sharing app, Instagram has announced plans to add a translation button on its interface for its over 500 million users.

According to the Facebook-owned company the new translation feature automatically translate user bios, comments and captions posted in foreign languages to the user’s native language.

This means, people you’re following or likewise, following you, who don’t understand your language will now be able to understand what you’re saying with the help of the translation button.

Instagram wrote in a post, “In the coming month, you’ll see a translation button on feed stories and profile bios written in languages different from your own. The Instagram community has grown faster and become more global than we ever imagined.

And we’re excited that you’ll soon be able to understand the full story of a moment, no matter what language you speak.

“If your language is available as a translation, you can tap See Translation below the text to see it,” the page adds, further describing that captions and comments on posts in an Instagram Feed should be automatically translated “as well as the bio you include on your profile, … based on the language they’re written in and the language settings of the person viewing it.

The social media app has seen its user base more than double over the past two years, recording over 300 million daily usage. Instagram recently crossed 500 million users.

Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 for $1 billion, its first large acquisition.
