Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday returned to Nigeria after a month-long trip to the United Kingdom and Côte d’Ivoire.
The former President arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Wednesday before heading for his hometown in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
An associate of the former President, who pleaded anonymity, said, “I have spoken with the ex-President and he said that he returned to the country.”
There were reports published by the media that Jonathan had escaped to Cote d’Ivoire for fear of being arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over corruption charges.
But a statement issued by the former president on the 23rd of May dismissed the reports as untrue and false, added that he was spending several weeks abroad on a multi-city speaking tour in the United Kingdom, United States of America, Côte d’Ivoire among others.
“I’m not on exile. I have no cause to go on exile. It is a wicked and malicious report,” Jonathan had said.
