Justin Bieber won’t be performing in China in a long time.

The Canadian pop-star was banned from performing in the Chinese capital by Beijing’s Municipal Bureau of Culture for what it described as “bad behavior”.

In a statement, the Bureau said it was inappropriate to allow the singer perform in the capital due to his negative past records.

“Justin Bieber is a gifted singer, but he is also a controversial young foreign singer,” the statement said in response to a question from a fan about why, with the singer about to embark on an Asia-wide tour, no venues have been scheduled in mainland China.

“We hope that as Justin Bieber matures, he can continue to improve his own words and actions, and truly become a singer beloved by the public.”

Bieber joins a long list of musicians who have found themselves similarly blacklisted is China on similar grounds.

Recall that in 2014 the pop-star caused upset on social media after he posted a photo of himself visiting Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo.

The shrine honours fallen warriors and pays tribute to convicted war criminals but in China and South Korea, the shrine is seen as a symbol of Japan not being sorry for its empire’s past.

The photo prompted outrage and scrutiny from the Chinese.
