Kano Radio Station Fires 2 Staff For Airing Song Praising Ex-Governor Kwakwanso

Two staff of Radio Kano, Alhaji Habibu and Musa Gwangwazo, have been suspended for airing a song which allegedly praised former Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

The duo were reportedly suspended by the Managing Director, Hajiya Sa’adatu Babaji, of the state owned radio station after airing the song.

It was gathered that an announcer at the station, Hajiya Furera Umar, who was on duty when the song was aired, was also issued with a query.

A staff who craved anonymity said: “To be sincere, we are in a serious dilemma in this station. The suspended staff is our chief librarian and his offense was that he chooses a song in which the former governor of the state Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso was praised.”

Meanwhile, the Managing Director, Hajiya Babaji is yet to comment on the report, which is currently making waves in the North western state.

They are indications that this may be unconnected to the ongoing rift between the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his predecessor Rabiu Kwakwanso.

The row between the incumbent governor and his former boss started when former commissioners under the administration of Kwankwaso went against Ganduje over his refusal to reappoint some of them, and also for not paying their severance allowance after serving the immediate past administration.

The feud between commissioners who served under Kwankwaso and Ganduje have been lingering for some months now and had resulted to war of words over the local radio stations, sponsored by the commissioners.

Governor Ganduje, had also alleged that the former governor misued the resources of the state and defrauding the people, while Kwakwanso on the other hand accussed Ganduje of not continuing his legacies of free education, foreign trips and others.

Ganduje further hinted that Kwankwaso had previously stated that he would not involve himself with the running of the state’s affairs, but promised that if the government fails, he would come back and change the government.

The Nation earlier in the year, reported that fourty-four Kano state legislators on March 15 angrily removed their symbolic red caps, as a symbol of their support to the incumbent governor, Ganduje, after falling out with his predecessor, Kwankwaso.
