Kwara On High Alert As Monkeypox Takes Deadly Toll On Akwa Ibom, Others

The Kwara State Government is on high alert against the new deadly epidemic known as “monkeypox” which has taken a toll on inhabitants of Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.

The Kwara Commissioner for Health, Dr Sulaiman Alege, announced that the state’s Ministry of Health has commenced a sensitization campaign at various health facilities across the state.

Addressing newsmen on Monday, Alege said the ministry commenced the campaign through its education unit.

“We have commenced sensitisation through our education units, both at health facilities and the local government areas.

“This is to make people aware of the virus because some people haven’t heard about it before.

“We also want them to be aware of the symptoms to watch out for to prevent any outbreak of the virus in the state,” he said.
