Labour Threatens Mass Action In Kogi Over Unpaid Salaries

The organized labour in Kogi State has called on its members to prepare for mass action if the government fails to pay backlog of salaries to its workers.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, the unions said the action was to protest government’s insensitivity and indifference to the plight of their members that had not been paid salaries for between two and 21 months.

The unions include the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC).

The statement was signed by Messrs Olakunle Faniyi, secretary of NLC, Mr James Kolawole, TUC and Mr Isa Abubakar of the JPSNC in Lokoja today (Tuesday).

The unions advised workers in the state not to fear or succumb to threat, urging them to remain firm and committed to the struggle

“It is the right of workers to embark on strike when their employers have failed to meet with the terms of employment, therefore the principle of ‘no-pay-no-work’ also applies,” the unions said.
