A Leader Who Can’t Stand Criticism Should Resign, Go Home – Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said any Nigerian leader who cannot stand criticism should “resign” from office.

Fayose said this in the light of efforts being made by the Federal Government to impose sanctions against perpetrators of hate speeches.

Recall that Senator Sabi Abdullahi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had sponsored a bill prescribing death by hanging for any person found guilty of any form of hate speech in the country.

The bill had passed for first reading at the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Friday.

Reacting however to the move, Governor Fayose said: “When you say the truth to power, tell those of us in power what we are doing wrong, it is not Hate Speech.

“Rather, it is patriotism. If you are in power and afraid of Nigerians telling you the bitter truth, resign and go to your house.

“On this issue of Hate Speech, I stand with Nigerians and anything they say to make the country better.

“Those of us occupying public offices are doing so in trust for the people, we are not their lords. The power of the people is greater than the power of the people in power,” the governor said in a series of tweets on Sunday.
