Lewandowski Recognised By Guinness Book Of Record

Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski was officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records on Monday for his five-goal haul in his club’s 5-1 Bundesliga win over VFL Wolfsburg in September.

The polish striker came off the bench to strike five times for the German giants and turn a 0-1 deficit into a 5-1 advantage in just nine minutes.

Lewandowski now holds the record for the fastest Bundesliga hat trick, the quickest four goals in a Bundesliga match, the fastest five goals in a Bungesliga fixture and most goals scored by a substitute in a Bundesliga contest.

Upon receiving the award, the 27-year old said: “When you are a young player I never dared to dream about something like this, to score five goals in nine minutes. But it happened. I did it.

“I don’t know if anybody else will be able to repeat this. I never thought about it, but I did it. Everything has to come together; timing, luck, fitness, form and the match itself. Of course I would like it if this was never to be repeated again. In this moment I am just happy that these four records belong to me now.”

Commenting on the achievement, Guinness World Records Editor in-Chief Craig Glenday said: “The sporting world was left in a state of shock and amazement when Lewandowski scored five goals in under 10 minutes – it was truly surreal.

“It’s not very often you see Guardiola with his hands on his face questioning what had just happened.

“His achievement will take some beating and is a sporting accolade worthy of entering the Guinness World Records Book.”Since achieving these records, Lewandowski has continued to find the back of the net, having scored 14 goals in the Bundlesliga so far this season, helping fire his team to an eight point lead ahead of second placed Dortmund, while his five goals in the Champions League have secured qualification for the knockout stages of the competition.
