Like SnapChat, Instagram Introduces Face Filter

Instagram Stories has introduced Snapchat-style augmented reality face filters.

The Facebook-owned photo and video sharing platform rolled out eight different face filters including one that sends math equations spinning around a user’s head.

“An easy way to turn an ordinary selfie into something fun and entertaining. Whether you’re sitting on the couch at home or you’re out and about, you can use face filters to express yourself and have playful conversations with friends,” the company said in a statement.

As part of the new additions, users will now be able to add hashtag “stickers” to a photo or video when posting it to their Story. Viewers will be able to tap these stickers to explore other media that’s been shared with the same hashtag. A new “rewind” video feature and an eraser have been added to the app as well.

The new feature will work whether you’re using the front or the back camera on your phone. You can find them by opening up the camera interface in the app and tapping the new icon in the bottom right corner.

The filters can be used in any of Instagram’s shooting modes — photo, video, or even Boomerang. You can access them by downloading the new 10.21 update on the App Store or Google Play Store.

The face filters are the last major Snapchat Stories feature missing from Instagram after it cloned Snap’s slideshow-sharing format, overlaid creative tools, disappearing Direct messages and more.
