LMC Announces New NPL Kick-off Date

The 2015/2016 season of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) will begin on February 21 and end on October 2, 2016, the League Management Company (LMC) announced on Tuesday.

The League will now commence shortly after the completion of the 2016 CHAN championship in Rwanda.

According to the LMC, it drafted the calendar of league activities following consultations with participating clubs and proposed fixtures of the Federation Cup.

The LMC, which is the body in charge of running the affairs of the Nigerian topflight, announced the Glo Premier League’s kick-off date via a post on their website, along with the dates for other activities.

The post read: “The League Management Company (LMC) on Tuesday announced a start date of February 21 for the regular season which will end on October 2.

“A comprehensive calendar of activities for the 2015/16 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season providing two rounds of Super 4 tournaments.

“We have following various consultations, been properly guided to streamline the activities of the NPFL, the NFF Federations Cup as well as Caf competition dates”, the LMC stated

In addition, LMC stated that Abuja has been selected to host the Super four tournament which will be contested between between January 20-24, while Uyo stage the second tournament between February 3-7.

“The first round of the NPFL Super 4 will hold in Kaduna from January 20-24 while the second round will be played in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State from February 1-5.

“The rationale for the two rounds of NPFL Super 4 is to get our clubs that will be playing on the continent to play at least six competitive games from the two tournaments to sufficiently prime them to reasonable match fitness.

“The tournament will as usual be played on a round-robbing structure.”

Champions Enyimba, runners-up Warri Wolves, cup holders Akwa United and third-placed Nasarawa United will contest the Super Four which would be a warm up games for the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
