‘Magu No Longer EFCC Chairman’

Ibrahim Magu is no longer the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and privileges, said on Thursday.

Senator Anyanwu said his committee ceased to regard Magu as the EFCC chairman following the refusal by the executive arm of government to heed Senate’s resolution on the status of anti-graft agency’s boss.

It would be recalled that the upper legislative chamber had rejected Magu’s confirmation as the substantive chairman of the EFCC after the Department of State Services (DSS) released a damning report on him.

Speaking at a conference on today, Anyanwu said there were countless petitions against the EFCC but that his committee opted not to invite Magu because it no longer sees him as the commission’s boss.

“There are petitions against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by some Nigerians, but my Committee does not see Ibrahim Magu as the Acting Chairman and that is why he was not invited,” adding that “The 2018 budget is here, we will use it as instrument against EFCC for defying Senate resolution on Ibrahim Magu.”
