Man Who Jumped Into Lagos Lagoon Identified

Oluseyi Adekunle, a resident of Lagos State, has been identified as the man who jumped off the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge on Friday morning, rescue officials say.

Adekunle reportedly jumped into the Lagos Lagoon on his way to work, in what appears to be a suicide attempt.

He was said to have dropped his bag at the rails before taking the plunge, with his ATM card and other personal items recovered from the scene, which was eventually used in revealing his identity.

A joint operation by officials of the the Lagos Waterways Authority, the state emergency management agency and the marine police, was called off after a four-hour search without recovery of the body.

However, investigations into the cause of Adekunle’s action is still being investigated.

Recall that earlier in the year, a medical doctor identified as Allwell Orji, committed suicide by jumping from the third mainland bridge into the lagoon.
