The Swede is expected to leave on a free transfer, with Major League Soccer club, LA Galaxy his rumoured destination.

“Manchester United confirms that it has agreed to the termination of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract with immediate effect,” the statement read.

“Everyone at the club would like to thank Zlatan for his contribution to the team since his arrival and wishes him well for the future.”

The 36-year-old striker scored 29 goals in 53 games for United, but has played only seven times since damaging his cruciate ligament last April.

Earlier this month, United manager Jose Mourinho said the striker was likely to leave at the end of the season.

“Great things also come to an end and it is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with Manchester United,” Zlatan posted on his Instagram page.

“Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history. #foreverred,” he added.

Several players from the Old Trafford based club took to the social media to offer farewell messages, after the news of the Swede’s imminent departure was made public.
