Monkeys Carted Away N70m Belonging To Senate Caucus – Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani, lawmaker representing Kaduna central, has humourously said the sum of N70 million belonging to the Northern Senators Caucus has been “carted away by monkeys”.

Sani said this on Wednesday shortly after the caucus removed its chairman and staunch Muhammadu Buhari supporter, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

Adamu, senator representing Nasarawa west, was sacked on Wednesday over allegations of “financial mismanagement” and “misadministration”.

The Nasarawa senator was immediately replaced by Senator Aliyu Wamakko.

Reacting to Adamu’s sack, Sani said since the money could not be accounted for, maybe this time monkeys have made away with the money.

This comes weeks after the nation was puzzled of a claim by a staff of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board that a snake swallowed 36 million of JAMB’s money.

Briefing newsmen after plenary, Sani said: “Abdullahi Adamu is a distinguished senator and an elder statesman. There are some things that some of my colleagues cannot say but I am not used to holding back what is the truth.

“When we resumed as senators, whenwe assumed office, senator Ahmed Lawan tendered the sum of 70 million naira to the 8th senate that is, that 70 million naira was monies gathered by northern senators from the 7th senate.

“So it was handed over to the 8th senators from northern Nigeria under the 8th senate.

“The rumours going round whether it is true but I believe most of the senators know is the fact there were allegations that some monkeys raided the farm house of some of the executives in northern senators forum and carted away some of these monies.

“I think this country is becoming a huge joke, first of all it was the rodent that drove away the president and we now have snakes consuming about N36 million, and now you have monkeys,” he said.

On his part, Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, said the allegations against Adamu were investigated and found out to be true.

“All I will just is simple that the decision of the majority of the northern senators forum is that they want to have a change of leadership. The allegations investigated and found out to be true is that there was financial mismanagement,” Melaye said.

“Monies were spent without the consent of members or the excos. The organization is becoming moribund and we need to inject some vibrancy in the organisation.”
