Muguruza Thumps Venus Williams To Win First Wimbledon Title

Garbiñe Muguruza secured her first Wimbledon title after an ultimately commanding and one-sided win over former champion Venus Williams.

The Spaniard was ruthless delivering an emphatic 7-5 6-0 victory over Venus to deny the American a sixth title on Saturday.

It is Muguruza’s second major title, adding to the French Open crown she won last year.

“Two years ago I lost to Serena and she told me maybe one day I would win. Here I am,” the 23 years old, said at the end of the match.

Muguruza earns £2.2million for this win at the All England Club and also makes up for finishing runner-up to Venus’ sister Serena in the final of two years ago.

Venus, who would have been the oldest winner of the Grand Slam at 37, saluted her conqueror at the end of the match: “I’m sure it means so much to you [Muguruza] and your family, well done today – beautiful,” Venus said.
