Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said his future was “not sorted completely”, failing yet again to state if his 21 years at the club will come to an end by the end of the season.

The Frenchman was offered a new contract at the beginning of the season, but put it on hold saying he will make a decision by the end of the season.

However, in the face of mounting pressure from fans, Wenger said after Arsenal’s 3-1 humiliating defeat to West Brom less than two weeks ago, that he will clarify on his future “soon”.

However, speaking during a press conference at Arsenal’s London Colney training base on Thursday, the 67-year-old said: “It’s a subject that at the moment it is not sorted completely out.

“Not today, but I’m very clear in my mind. Do I stay two months or two years?

“My commitment will be exactly the same all the time. It does not influence my attitude.

Arsenal last won the Premier League 13 years ago, and their 10-2 aggregate defeat by Bayern condemned them to a seventh successive last 16 exit in the Champions League.

The Gunners slipped to sixth in the Premier League, having won just 2 of their last 6 matches, form which has seen sections of supporters hold banners and sing songs asking Wenger to leave.

The manager was quick to dismiss suggestions that the uncertainty over his future is the cause of Arsenal’s poor run of form.

“No, I believe the priority in life is always to focus on what is important and not to look for excuses,” he said.

“At the moment our results are not going the way they should, but we have to make sure the priority is what happens on the pitch.”

The Arsenal boss remains confident the star man Alexis Sanchez wants to stay at the Gunners despite suggestions he had hinted at a move to their London rivals

Chilean Sanchez was quoted in his homeland saying: “I’m happy in London [home of both Arsenal and current Premier League leaders Chelsea] and I want to finish my contract. I like to stay in one place, one city, where the team fights for titles.”

“There’s only one team in London, so he’s happy,” Wenger joked.

“I think personally he is happy here, [but] it is true we have not extended his contract yet.

“I hope that he will stay at the club but overall we have to be very cautious when people give interviews in their own countries because the interpretation is not always exactly what they wanted to say.

“I don’t see anything negative in that. He wants to win the championship and that is what everybody wants. I can understand that completely.

“It is true that it happened before when we were in a position financially where we had to sell our best players, but that is not the case anymore.

“He has one-and-a-half years [left on his] contract so I don’t think that it is an immediate concern for Arsenal football club.”
