The National Association of Nigerian Footballers, NANF, has criticized the recent foiled attempt to arrest the Chairman of League Management Company, Mallam Shehu Dikko by men suspected to be security agents.

The association urged football loving Nigerians to throw their weight behind the LMC boss, saying that since his appointment he has taken Nigerian football to higher heights.

The LMC boss escaped abduction by the whiskers as plain clothed men who claimed to be members of the Nigeria Police tried to abduct him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja on arrival from Zambia on Monday.

Dikko was part of the delegates that travelled to the southern African nation for the Super Eagles FIFA World Cup Qualifier clash against the Chipolopolo at Ndola.

As the men tried to arrest him, the attack was foiled by the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, NFF Executive Committee member including President Amaju Pinnick and players of the Super Eagles, who intervened, prompting one of the men to fire gunshots into the air.

“Shehu Dikko has, in a very short period, proved that bringing our football league to the preferred destination,” part of the statement read.

NANF recently announced it recovered millions of naira as part of broadcast rights for the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL.
