New Anti-Cancer Protein Prevents Cell Growth

Scientists have found a new anti-cancer protein that is capable of preventing the growth of cancer cells.

The group of international scientists say the anti-cancer protein doesn’t only prevent the proliferation of the cells but also helps in the diagnosis and prognosis of cancer in the liver.

The discovery was contained in a release by the University of Basel and which has been published in the scientific journal, Nature.

The institution stated that the anti-cancer proteins can prevent the propagation of mutilated cells that result into tumours in the liver.

Otherwise known as tumour suppressors, the anti-cancer proteins are said to help in the retention of what is called “protein LHPP”, which when absent in the body can encourage tumour growth.

One the researchers, Sravanth Hindupur, said of the discovery: “It is striking that LHPP is present in healthy tissue and completely absent in tumour tissue.”
