NGE Names Dangote As Chief Guest For Its Plaza Foundation Laying Ceremony

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has named President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, as the Chief Guest of Honour at the upcoming foundation stone laying ceremony of its multi-purpose Editors’ Plaza.

Recall that the Guild had said in a previous statement that the Chairman of BUA Group, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, will perform the ‘turning of the sod’ to herald the construction of the plaza.

Chairing the event scheduled to hold in Guzape District, Abuja, on March 1, is the Senate Minority Leader and former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Speaking in a statement on Sunday by its Publicity Secretary, Ken Ugbechie, the NGE said, “The turning of the sod for the Editors’ Plaza is sequel to a fund-raiser on April 10, 2014 in Abuja under the leadership of the then President of the Guild, Mr. Femi Adesina. The goal was to raise funds to build a befitting secretariat for the Guild in Abuja to be named Editors’ Plaza.

“Part of the money realized from the fund-raiser has been used to acquire a property in Ikeja area of Lagos State christened Editors’ House which functions as the Guild’s secretariat in Lagos.”

Ugbechie quoted the President of the Guild, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, as saying part of the proposed Editors’ Plaza “would serve as the Guild’s secretariat while the rest would be leased to the public as offices.”
