The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, NigComSat has been awarded the right to provide communication services to Belarus.
The new communications satellite, which was constructed by the China Great Wall Industry Corporation, will provide In-Orbit Test for the European country.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs at NigComSat, Mr. Adamu Idris, who added that the company is in the process of mounting a new antenna to be dedicated to monitoring the new satellite.
Idris explained that the bid won by NigComSat would enable it to provide both In-Orbit Test and Carrier Spectrum Monitoring services to monitor the Belarus satellite known as Belintesat-1.
He said: “The IOT/CSM services agreement has been signed between NigComSat and CGWIC and work has since started.
“By the engagement, NigComSat will support the activities of CGWIC by providing necessary facilities to test communication payload of the Belintersat-1 satellite over Africa using the NigComSat Limited Ground Station infrastructure located in Abuja.
“NigComSat Limited will also provide CSM services to monitor the performance of Belintersat-1 and transmit the data in real time to Belarus for the life of the satellite.
“This is a big feat for Nigeria and clearly shows that NigComSat and indeed Nigeria has developed the capacity to provide highly technical services in the satellite communications industry in addition to its traditional services of transponder leasing, broadband services, enterprise solutions, secure communications and solutions among others over Nigeria.”
Idris further explained that the IOT services will be provided from NigComSat’s ground station in Abuja.
