Nigeria Drops 9 Places In Latest FIFA Ranking

In what came as a surprise to football lovers across the country, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped 9 places to 50th in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking released by the world football governing body on Thursday.

Gernot Rohr’s men were ranked 41st in the previous world ranking, a 1-1 draw against Algeria and a 4-2 thrashing of Argentina was expected to take the Eagles higher in the latest ranking.

However, their total points were devalued largely due to the draw against Algeria in their final World Cup qualifier on November 10.

According to the rankings, Senegal, Tunisia, Egypt, Congo DR and Morrocco, were the top 5 African teams respectively.

Nigeria was ranked eight, behind Burkina Faso and Cameroon.

On the global scene, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium, are the top best teams in the world, according to the ranking.
