Nigeria Will Never Return To Fuel Scarcity Era – NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has assured that Nigerians will not experience fuel scarcity during and after the festive periods.

Ikem Obih, chief operating officer, downstream, and alternate chairman of the corporation board, made this promise in a statement signed by Ndu Ughamadu, NNPC spokesman in Abuja.

According to Ughamadu, Maikanti Baru, group managing director, has directed Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) to ensure steady petrol supply during and beyond the Christmas and New Year festive season.

He said “The festive season is fast approaching, a period when almost always, people expect queues to happen,” Baru was quoted to have said.

“If last year you had a queue-free festive season, we want this year’s to be a season where fuel station attendants will be inviting motorists to their stands for fuelling.”

Recall early last month, NNPC assured Nigerians of no fuel scarcity during the yuletide season because it had stored over two billion litres to ensure a hitch-free movement.

Baru, confirmed that adequate measures were in place to ensure that motorists have unimpeded access to fuel ahead of the end-of-year festivities.

“As we speak, the NNPC has over two billion litres of petrol and we want to sustain this level from now on up until the end of the year and beyond. This volume will give the country product sufficiency of about 60 days, well above the standard 30 days sufficiency threshold.” Baru said
