Nigeria Wins First Medal In Rio 2016 Paralympic Games

Nigeria’s female powerlifter Latifat Tijani has won the country’s first medal at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Tijani won silver in the women’s 45kg Powerlifting after lifting an impressive 106kg, coming behind China’s Hu Dandan, who set a new world and paralympic record with her lift of 107kg.

Zoe Newson of Great Britain won bronze.

Nigeria is poised to repeat her feat at the London 2012 Paralympics in the powerlifting event, after winning four gold and one silver at the competition.
