Nigerian Youths ‘Doing Well’ In Every Economic Sphere – Osinbajo

Contrary to his principal’s claim that Nigerian youths are indolent and not ready to work, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the country’s youth are outstanding in different spheres of the nation’s economy.

President Muhammadu Buhari, it would be recalled, had said the nation has “a very young population” who “have not been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria has been an oil producing country, therefore they should sit and do nothing and get housing, healthcare and education free.” The president said this at the ongoing Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London.

But speaking to a delegation of the “Not-Too-Young-To-Run Movement” which paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja on Thursday, Osinbajo deemed the youth as fit to man political positions in the country.

“It is true that young people are participating in every sphere of the economy and they are doing well, but they ended up there through one process of training or the other,” the Vice President said.

“Just like you have to train before you can become a pilot, so it is for politics.

“I think that whatever age a person chooses to run should not matter; what should matter is the preparedness of the person because elective positions require some skills.

“Most times people train to acquire other skills but not politics; that’s the way of democracy,’’ said the Vice President.
